UrtheCast is a Vancouver-based technology company that serves the rapidly evolving geospatial and geoanalytics markets with a broad range of information-rich products and services.

UrtheCast currently operates four Earth Observation sensors in space, including two cameras aboard the International Space Station and two satellites.

The Challenge: 

Urthecast’s vision is to bring the world a unique perspective on our evolving planet. Part of executing on that vision was the goal of installing two high definition cameras on the international space station and streaming that data live to earth. To make that happen Urthecast needed the right team members and the funding to fuel the innovative work necessary.

The Solution: 

Urthecast already had the vision and the plan in place, what they lacked was the right team.  Using the BIG methodology, we helped Urthecast find and acquire that team. We also worked closely with them to fund the development of their new technology.

Corporate Finance

Urthecast needed financing to hire the right experts to develop and deploy the required hardware and software for high-quality, high-resolution, and high revisit imagery in all weather conditions, any time of day, even in space.

What we did:

  • Facilitated the raised 52M in financing.  
  • Managed all shareholder communications.
  • Managed Due Diligence process for investment.
  • Developed and maintained a robust investor portal, streamlining future investor relationships. 

Strategic Business Development

Urthecast wanted to create and scale their technology to the point that they would be able to install two high-definition cameras on the international space station and stream that data live to earth. They knew that through this process they could develop additional tools that many industries could use. Because of this, they needed a team capable of implementing that vision.

What we did:

  • Facilitated talent acquisition of GroundMap a San Francisco-based company that had the team that Urthecast needed.
  • Onboarding and integrating the GroundMap team, to best utilize their talent.
  • Develop the consumer product team, which later would create the Urthecast Consumer Platform, that allowed viewers to stream live video from the International Space Station.

Management and Implementation

Using the BIG methodology of Clarity, Alignment, and Measurement we facilitated quarterly and weekly strategy sessions with leadership, this allowed projects to move forward more quickly, and kept the team focused.

What we did:

  • Facilitated quarterly and weekly strategy meetings with leadership.
  • Worked with leadership to apply the BIG methodologies to the culture of Urthecast.
  • Lowered the amount of time spent on meetings and management, increased productivity in all departments, as well as speed to market.
